The customer support representative told me that it's actually better for the engine to stay in manual mode rather than auto mode because the auto mode starts and stops the engine which is bad for this unit. Once the setpoint is reached, the APU Engine will shut down until the temperature either rises or falls past the setpoint. The system will repeat this process during Cabin Temp Auto Start.
