Even some of the older express models are fine. Newer (and I mean in the last decade or so) express models like to lock up and have a worse fit/finish. Maverick 88 if you’re buying brand new. It’ll at least work, where the 870 will be a bit of a crapshoot.

Some people prefer a shorter barrel with rifle sights for turkey that definitely makes sense, but there's nothing wrong with the 28" field barrel. Either one should be a winner.The Mossberg Maverick 88 is almost identical to the highly acclaimed Maverick 500 shotgun. But one key difference between both guns is the manufacturing process. The 88's assembly is carried out in Texas, but parts of the gun are made outside of the USA - predominantly in Mexico. This drives costs down, especially in comparison to the 500.A number of my buddies shot 500's and 835's. They all worked. I shot Remingtons because they fit me better. I have nothing bad to say about the cheap Mossbergs or the even cheaper Mossberg Mavericks. I believe the Mossberg pump guns can be built at a at cheaper price point than the 870 and still be extremely reliable.
