First, you really need to go to a quality vet. There are some horrible stories about different vets in Texas (including Ear Trim). The only two vets I know of that do quality cropping in Texas are Dr. Crouch and Dr. Schaeffer. (And I know a LOT of breeders in Texas). My girl is from Texas.
